Pizza is actually very easy to make and that’s the point! Once you have your pizza dough and sauce ready, you’re almost there. The key to NY style pizza is to not have too much of any ingredient. Extra thick dough? Try Chicago. Toppings? Absolutely! Just don’t go overboard in quantity or use more than 2-3 varieties.
Just remember: sauce, then cheese, then flat toppings, and finally, thicker or small toppings (such as peppers or garlic respectively).
New York Style Pizza
Ingredients
- 1 recipe of pizza dough
- ½ cup pizza sauce
- 8 ounces whole milk shredded mozzarella
Directions
- Step 1 Preheat the oven to as hot as it will go without broiling. Typically, about 450-500°F.
- Step 2 Spread a thin layer of sauce leaving about an inch of uncovered dough at the edges for the crust.
- Step 3 Sprinkle cheese evenly on to pizza. (If you want toppings, add them at this point.)
- Step 4 Place in oven until cheese is melted and bubbling and crust is golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.
- Step 5 Allow to cool slightly. It is best practice to slide the pizza off the pan onto a cutting board. It is bad for the knife and the pan to cut with a metal blade onto a metal pan, but do what works for you and your space/tools.
